Planning Study
Project Information:
Project Goals:
The ultimate goal of the planning study was to complete an Outfall Systems Plan (OSP) for the Westerly Creek area downstream of Westerly Creek Dam to:
- Evaluate existing studies and be mindful of their original intent
- Identify drainage system deficiencies, specifically where street flooding is greater than 1 foot
- Identify and plan upgrades to the existing stormwater system facilities and propose new improvements including new storm drains and detention basins/ponds
- Preserve or enhance existing or newly defined open space
- Conceptually design improvements to support funding allocation for future projects
Project Summary:
The Mile High Flood District, City and County of Denver, and the City of Aurora entered into an agreement to conduct outfall systems planning for Westerly Creek downstream of Westerly Creek Dam. This project partners contracted Bohannan Huston, Inc (BHI) to complete the Westerly Creek OSP. The goals for the OSP were to look for opportunities to daylight waterways, improve capacity and reduce street flooding to meet local criteria.
Phase 1 (Baseline Hydrology) – Bohannan Huston, Inc. performed data gathering and analysis to analyze the existing hydrologic conditions in the study area.
Phase 2 (Alternatives Analysis) – Bohannan Huston, Inc. analyzed alternatives for improving flooding within the study area to inform an alternatives evaluation.
Phase 3 (Conceptual Design) – Bohannan Huston, Inc. prepared conceptual design plans for the combination of alternatives selected by the District and Project Sponsors.
Bohannan Huston, Inc. has submitted a written report titled “Westerly Creek Downstream of Westerly Creek Dam Outfall Systems Plan” that was prepared in a way that allows for future updates to be easily made to the reporting, tables and mapping. The report will serve as a tool for the District and Project Sponsors to use in future planning.
* Report is 230MB. It will take some time to load. *
* Executive Summary is 927KB. Very small. *
